I had the same problem ... I had setup my Wordpress blog, but nobody would come (although I did a little bit of SEO). So I moved to Medium ... great design, awesome community, a lot of visibility, and little bit of money :)

Great point concerning the hub! Websites (especially from writers) seem to glue together their social media profiles ...

Btw, if that's your goal, did you try [https://bio.link/]? It's a great & quick way to build a hub within minutes (as far as I know, it's 100% free).
